Canada welcomes successful business people who are seeking new opportunities and challenges. The Business Immigration Program is designed to encourage and facilitate the admission of these individuals. Both the federal and provincial/territorial governments welcome business immigrants and offer services to help immigrants start a business and settle in Canada.

Eligibility criteria:

For your application to be eligible for processing, you must:

• have received a Letter of Support from a designated entity or investment commitment from one of the Designated Organizations in Canada
• The foreign national must own at least 10% of the shares in the startup. Foreign nationals and their Designated Organization must jointly have more than 50% of the total shares (voting rights) in the start-up venture;
• meet the language requirements i.e minimum English or French language skill at CLB level 5;
• have sufficient settlement funds (transferable and available funds, free of debts or other obligations and excluding any investment made by a designated entity into their business)- (at a minimum, between $12,960 – $34,299, depending on the size of the applicant’s family).

If you meet all three requirements indicated above, then you may qualify to immigrate to Canada under the Start-up Business Class.

In addition to the above, entrepreneurs should also meet the following basic criteria in order to be successful in this program:

• The ownership of a successful or innovative business that generates scalable and sustainable revenue;
• An applicant needs to have access to a minimum of $200,000 to fund their start-up ventures;
• Expertise or unique experience in your field or solid managerial experience; and
• Possess upper-intermediate English and/or French language skill(s).
